The belt helps you maintain proper posture when weightlifting.

However, a weightlifting belt must never replace focusing on proper exercise technique.
The 85% rule
The most common recommendation for wearing a weightlifting belt is to use the belt once you are moving more than 85% of your max weight.
However, some athletes like the support even at lighter weights, so they can continue performing movements cleanly when fatigue sets in during a workout.
Placement
The weightlifting belt should be worn securely over the hips and below the ribs, centered around the navel, to ensure maximum support and stability.
