Move more weight with greater safety
The belt helps you maintain the correct posture when weightlifting.
This reduces the risk of spinal injury and lets you move more weight with clean form. The increased stability can sometimes make exactly the difference that gets you to your next PR.
A weightlifting belt must never replace your focus on correct exercise technique.
The 85% rule
The most common recommendation for wearing a weightlifting belt is to use the belt once you are moving more than 85% of your max weight.
Some athletes, however, like the support even at lighter weights so they can keep performing exercises with clean form when fatigued during a workout.
Placement
The weightlifting belt should be worn securely above the hips and below the ribs, centered around the belly button, to ensure maximum support and stability.
