Vitamin D3 capsules by Edubily

Vitamin D is one of the essential micronutrients and is involved in various bodily functions. It contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, and therefore to the maintenance of healthy bones. Vitamin D also contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function and normal immune system function.

Edubily uses only a few raw materials in its vitamin D range: it contains only cholecalciferol (vitamin D) and olive oil in the vegan capsule shell, with no other additives. Easy to dose: one capsule contains 20 µg (= 800 IU) of vitamin D.

Frequently asked questions & answers from Edubily

Is vitamin D3 vegetarian or vegan?

Vitamin D3 is vegetarian, but not vegan. It is obtained from sheep wool fat (lanolin).

How much vitamin D is found in foods?

10-20% of your vitamin D requirement can be met through diet. Foods with notable amounts of vitamin D include fatty fish (salmon, herring and mackerel), for example.

What is an optimal vitamin D level?

The figures for the optimal vitamin D level vary depending on the source. According to the Robert Koch Institute, a level of around 20 ng/ml (50 nmol/l) is considered sufficient. However, several professional societies, including the Endocrine Society, as well as vitamin D discoverer Michael F. Holick (current publication in Nature), recommend at least 30 ng/ml (75 nmol/l).

How does body weight affect the vitamin D dose?

Body weight has a direct influence on vitamin D requirements. Firstly, fatty tissue can act as a “store” for vitamin D, making less of it available in the blood. Secondly, requirements increase as body mass rises. Studies show that people with severe obesity may need up to two to three times more vitamin D, while people who are overweight should plan for around 50% more on average.

Can you overdose on vitamin D?

In theory, yes, but in practice this is rare. In summer, vitamin D can be produced naturally in the skin in very high amounts through sun exposure. A dose of around 10,000 IU, which is often considered high, can be produced by the skin in just a few minutes. Nevertheless, very high doses of over 10,000 IU per day should be avoided over longer periods.

Does vitamin D have to be combined with vitamin K2?

Not necessarily, but it makes sense. Vitamin D influences the formation of vitamin K-dependent proteins. Additional K2 intake can therefore be beneficial. In our range, you will find a separate Vitamin K1 & K2 product, as well as 2-in-1 Vitamin D3 and K2 drops.

Can you take vitamin D3 during pregnancy?

Yes.
