Whey Hydrolysate Powder – for faster protein intake

Whey is the English term for whey—one of the two main components of milk protein. Alongside casein, whey represents the so-called rapidly available fraction. During the production of protein powders, these two types of protein are usually separated from one another, which is why whey and casein products are also sold separately in stores. Edubilys’ product contains only pure whey protein.

A distinctive feature of whey is its natural content of essential amino acids—that is, the building blocks of protein that the body cannot produce on its own and must obtain through diet. The higher the proportion of these amino acids, the higher the so-called biological value—an important indicator of a protein’s quality.

This product is a whey hydrolysate, which means that the larger protein molecules have been broken down to improve digestibility.

Whey in hydrolyzed form

Whey protein comes in three different forms:

  • Whey concentrate: The simplest form of whey protein. It has a high protein content but also contains more fat and carbohydrates because it undergoes less filtration. Whey concentrate is more affordable but also contains lactose.
  • Whey isolate: An additional filtration process removes almost all of the fat and carbohydrates. This increases the protein content to about 90% and generally makes whey isolate easy to digest, virtually lactose-free, and lower in calories.

Also available here: Edubily Whey Isolate Powder made from pasture-raised milk—in nine different flavors.

  • Whey hydrolysate: An enzymatically broken-down form of whey in which the protein structures are broken down into smaller peptides. This further accelerates absorption in the body. However, whey hydrolysate contains lactose and often has a bitter taste (or a slight aftertaste, even if it is masked by added flavorings).

Whey made from Irish pasture-raised milk

This whey comes from Irish pasture-raised cows that consume over 90% of their feed in the form of fresh pasture grass. Thanks to natural and sustainable grazing conditions, the animals spend up to 300 days a year outdoors. In addition, Ireland has some of the highest standards in milk production worldwide. The cows live in small herds of no more than 70 animals and benefit from traditional, sustainable farming practices with a particularly low ecological footprint.

Gentle manufacturing for maximum purity

The whey protein undergoes a sophisticated CFM (cross-flow microfiltration) process to preserve the proteins as effectively as possible. During this process, the protein is processed at low temperatures and filtered without excessive heat exposure. Hydrolysis is carried out by enzymes, which convert the peptides into their most digestible form. This process also preserves certain whey peptides that are currently being researched for their bioactive properties.

Frequently asked questions and answers from Edubily

Is the hydrolysate based on a concentrate or an isolate?

The base is whey concentrate.

What does whey hydrolysate taste like?

Pure whey hydrolysate has a very strong, bitter taste. That is why this product contains a wild berry flavoring and stevia as a sweetener. However, a slightly bitter aftertaste cannot be completely avoided.

Is the whey hydrolysate also available in an unflavored version?

No, because pure hydrolyzed whey protein would be inedible. Without flavoring and sweetener, it wouldn't be consumed.

Is this product soy-free?

Yes, the product is completely free of soy and soy emulsifiers. However, cross-contamination can never be 100% ruled out.

Is the product lactose-free?

No—it does contain lactose, though only a small amount. Our whey isolate, on the other hand, is 100% lactose-free.
