Vitamin D3 drops from Edubily

Vitamin D3 is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in the body. It contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, which makes it key to maintaining healthy bones. The body needs vitamin D in order to use calcium efficiently. Vitamin D also contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function and to the normal function of the immune system.

Edubily uses only a few raw materials in its vitamin D range: it contains only cholecalciferol (vitamin D), MCT oil based on coconut oil, and vitamin K2-MK7 in the all-trans form; with no other additives. Easy to dose with the pipette: one drop contains 20 µg (= 800 IU) vitamin D and 15 µg vitamin K2.

Supplemented with vitamin K2

This product also contains vitamin K. Some specialist sources suggest that vitamin D could influence the need for vitamin K – partly because it supports the formation of certain vitamin K-dependent proteins such as osteocalcin.

Edubily uses vitamin K2-MK7 in the so-called all-trans form for this product – a form that also occurs naturally in fermented foods. This structure is considered particularly stable and easy to utilise. Compared with synthetic mixed forms containing cis isomers, studies indicate that the all-trans form has higher availability in the body and remains in the blood for longer.

According to official health claims, vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting and to the maintenance of normal bones.

Frequently asked questions & answers from Edubily

Does vitamin D need to be combined with vitamin K2?

Not necessarily, but it makes sense. If you want a product without vitamin K2, take a look at vitamin D3 as drops, or capsules.

Is vitamin D3 vegetarian or vegan?

Vitamin D3 is vegetarian, but not vegan. It is obtained from sheep wool fat (lanolin).

Can I add vitamin D3 to food or drinks?

In theory, yes, but taking it directly by mouth is recommended. This allows vitamin D3 to be absorbed through the mucous membranes, which can support more effective absorption.

How much vitamin D is found in food?

Vitamin D is found only in very small amounts in food, so usually only 10-20% of requirements can be covered this way. Foods with notable amounts of vitamin D include fatty fish (salmon, herring, and mackerel), for example.
Meeting your vitamin D needs through diet alone is almost impossible.

Isn't it enough if I spend time in the sun?

At our latitudes, the intensity of sunlight between October and March is not enough to produce sufficient vitamin D. Supplementation can therefore make sense.

How long do vitamin D stores from summer last?

In short: not at all. Studies show that vitamin D supply in Europe is insufficient, especially during the winter months. A 2015 study by the Robert Koch Institute found that 80% of Germans do not even reach the recommended 20 ng/ml — and 30 ng/ml is even less common. Despite this significant undersupply, the problem is often downplayed in Germany.

What is an optimal vitamin D level?

Recommendations for the optimal vitamin D level vary depending on the source. According to the Robert Koch Institute, a level of around 20 ng/ml (50 nmol/l) is considered sufficient. However, several professional societies, including the Endocrine Society, as well as vitamin D discoverer Michael F. Holick (recent publication in Nature), recommend at least 30 ng/ml (75 nmol/l) to make the best use of the positive effects on calcium, bone, and muscle metabolism.

How does body weight affect the vitamin D dose?

Body weight has a direct impact on vitamin D requirements. First, fat tissue can act as a “store” for vitamin D, making less of it available in the blood. Second, requirements increase as body mass increases. Studies show that people with severe obesity may need up to two to three times more vitamin D, while overweight people should plan for around 50% more on average.

How much vitamin D can one-year-olds get?

A recent specialist article in the renowned journal Nature recommends a daily intake of 400 to 1,000 IU for toddlers up to one year of age. For babies and children, we also have a specially tailored formula from Edubily in our range. It allows safe and easy dosing for children.

Can you overdose on vitamin D?

Theoretically yes, but in practice this is rare. Vitamin D is one of the safest vitamins, as in summer it is naturally produced in the skin in very high amounts through sun exposure. A dose of around 10,000 IU, which is often considered high, can be produced by the skin in just a few minutes. So the body has mechanisms for dealing with high amounts. Nevertheless, very high doses of over 10,000 IU per day should be avoided over longer periods.

Can you take vitamin D3 during pregnancy?

Yes! Studies show that up to 4,000 IU per day is safe.
