Whey isolate powder – protein from whey
Whey is the English term for whey protein and, alongside casein, is one of the two main components of milk protein. Due to their different properties, whey and casein are often separated during processing – which is why both are also available as standalone products. The product from Edubily is based exclusively on whey protein
Whey protein contains all essential amino acids. These also include the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs).
This product is whey isolate, with a protein content of around 90 %.
The different forms of whey
Whey protein is available in three different forms:
- Whey concentrate: Contains a high protein content, but also more fat and carbohydrates, as well as lactose, because it is filtered less. Whey concentrate is usually more affordable.
-
Whey isolate: Additional filtration removes fat and carbohydrates. The filtration process also increases the protein content.
- Whey hydrolysate: An enzymatically broken-down form of whey in which the protein structures are split into smaller components (peptides). Whey hydrolysate contains some lactose and differs in taste and texture depending on production and added flavouring.
Also available: the whey hydrolysate powder from pasture milk.
Whey from Irish pasture milk
This whey comes from Irish pasture-raised cows in manageable herds that spend most of their time outdoors and mainly eat fresh pasture grass. The product is Carbery certified.
From whey to powder
This whey isolate is produced using the so-called CFM process (cross-flow microfiltration) – a technical filtration process in which the protein is concentrated through micro- and ultrafiltration (spray drying).
Thanks to the addition of sunflower lecithin, the powder dissolves well in water, milk or other liquids.
It is suitable for shakes and smoothies, but can also be used for baking.
